BENEFITS OF AROMATHERAPY
Hello again! We love seeing you here.
Today we have a most interesting topic; aromatherapy, because every day we are more surprised by everything that nature can offer us and we want to share it with you. You may be wondering what is aromatherapy? what is it for?
Aromatherapy is a form of alternative medicine based on essential oils, which aims to improve psychological or physical well-being. They can be used topically, on the skin, inhaled, using our sense of smell, and even immersive, in water flavored with the essential oil. This therapy is very old. Keep reading and we will tell you more about its origin!
JOURNEY THROUGH THE HISTORY OF AROMATHERAPY
When they opened the tomb of Tutankhamun, they discovered that it contained jars for perfumes, and these still kept essences that, even today, subtly give off aroma.
Indeed, the Egyptians already used essential oils.
We know this and more thanks to the fact that their texts describe ritual procedures, healing ointments, poultices, and they had the practice of using aromatic fumigations to elevate the spirit, helping the person to heal from any disease. There are even numerous references to "magical perfumes" that increase the attraction between people and promise happiness.
These practices later spread to India, Greece, Rome and even China, which saw their medicinal power and soon those essential oils became medicines. Today these practices are still used as alternative therapy, since we do not have sufficient evidence that their use cures diseases, but we do know, thanks to different studies, that odors can stimulate and produce chemical changes in our brain and that its use improves mood and can even reduce levels of stress, anxiety and depression.
We leave you here some interesting studies; on how aromatherapy could help improve anxiety without the side effects of common anxiolytics:
